Monday, August 2 – Departure from the United States |
Depart for Germany on overnight international flights to Munich. Travelers are encouraged to rest during the flight in preparation for the program ahead and the busy days of learning, exploration, and community that await them in Europe.

Tuesday, August 3 – Arrival in Munich |
Early morning arrival in Munich, followed by a panoramic city bus tour introducing Bavaria’s capital. Munich is known for its royal history, public squares, beer halls, and museums, and it also served as an important center for post WWII Displaced Persons communities. The city became home to many Ukrainian émigré institutions and remains an important site of Ukrainian intellectual and cultural life in Europe.

Wednesday, August 4 – Munich |
Morning lecture on the history of Displaced Persons camps and postwar Ukrainian intellectual life in Germany. Founded in exile, the university became a major center for Ukrainian scholarship and cultural preservation during the Cold War.
The afternoon is free for independent exploration, followed by dinner in the evening at the historic Hofbräuhaus, where participants can experience traditional Bavarian music and cuisine in one of Munich’s most famous gathering places.

Thursday, August 5 – Day Trip to Nuremberg |
Full-day excursion to the medieval city of Nuremberg, renowned for its imperial castle, well-preserved old town, and deep historical significance in twentiethcentury Europe. The city served as both a symbolic center of the Nazi regime and the site of the Nuremberg Trials. Walking through the historic streets also offers a chance to experience one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval urban centers.

Friday, August 6 – Dachau and Transfer to Mittenwald |
Morning visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. The visit offers important historical context for understanding the devastation of World War II and the experiences of Ukrainian political prisoners, refugees, and displaced populations in postwar Europe. In the afternoon, the group heads south to Mittenwald, a picturesque Alpine town known for its painted houses, violinmaking traditions, and breathtaking mountain scenery near the Austrian border.

Saturday, August 7 – Linderhof and Neuschwanstein Castles |
Full-day excursion from Mittenwald to visit Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle, both associated with King Ludwig II of Bavaria. These castles showcase 19th-century romanticism, mythology, and impressive architecture, set against stunning Alpine scenery. Neuschwanstein, in particular, has inspired many artists and travelers and remains one of the world’s most famous castles.

Sunday, August 8 – Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Zugspitze, and Oberammergau |
Today we visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany’s premier Alpine resort town and former Winter Olympics host. The excursion includes an ascent of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, with panoramic views across the Alps into Austria and Switzerland. The day also includes time in Oberammergau, internationally known for its Passion Play tradition, painted houses, and centuries-old woodcarving heritage that reflects strong local craftsmanship and identity.

Monday, August 9 – Salzburg and Bicycle Tour |
Day trip to Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and one of Europe’s most beautiful Baroque cities. Nestled along the Salzach River beneath a hilltop fortress, Salzburg is renowned for its musical heritage, elegant architecture, and Alpine scenery. Participants will also experience the city on a special bicycle tour that explores sites connected to The Sound of Music and Salzburg’s vibrant cultural traditions.

Tuesday, August 10 – Berchtesgaden, Königssee, and Eagle’s Nest |
Excursion to Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps, a mountain region known for extraordinary scenery and complex historical associations with the Nazi era. The day includes a boat ride on the Königssee, a striking emerald lake surrounded by steep Alpine cliffs, and the Eagle’s Nest, which overlooks the Alps. This region combines natural beauty with opportunities to reflect on difficult histories and the importance of historical memory.

Wednesday, August 11 – Innsbruck |
Day trip to Innsbruck, the historic capital of Tyrol in western Austria. Set amid dramatic mountain peaks, Innsbruck blends imperial Habsburg history with Alpine culture and modern winter-sports traditions. Its colorful old town and mountain setting make it one of the most vibrant and youthful cities in the Alpine region.

Thursday, August 12 – Karwendel Mountain Hike and Hut Overnight |
The group departs from Mittenwald for a guided mountain hike into the Karwendel Alps, one of Europe’s largest protected Alpine wilderness regions. The hike offers opportunities to experience traditional mountain culture, Alpine ecology, and spectacular high-altitude landscapes. An overnight stay in a mountain hut will give participants a memorable experience of camaraderie and the beauty of life in the Alps, away from modern distractions.

Friday, August 13 – Return to Mittenwald |
Morning return hike to Mittenwald, followed by a transfer back to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for rest, independent exploration, shopping, or enjoying the Alpine surroundings at a relaxed pace. This slower day allows participants time to reflect on the journey’s experiences and enjoy the atmosphere of the Bavarian mountains.

Saturday, August 14 – 80th DP Camp Reunion Celebration |
A special gathering commemorates the 80th anniversary of Pershi Stezhi and the postwar DP camp experience, honoring the resilience of displaced communities in Europe and North America. The evening features a gala farewell with traditional German music, shared memories, and reflections on migration, survival, and cultural continuity across generations. The event also offers younger participants the chance to connect directly with stories that shaped Ukrainian diaspora communities after World War II.

Sunday, August 15 – Departure for the United States |
Morning transfer to Munich Airport for return flights to the United States. Participants depart with a deeper understanding of European history, post-WWII Ukrainian diaspora experiences, and the cultural landscapes of Bavaria and Austria. The program concludes with lasting memories of friendship, exploration, and shared heritage formed throughout the journey.
